The Elite Palace Hotel opened in 1958, and was built to accommodate the growing number of people travelling by car. The hotel was unique in the way it was built on top of the car halls of the Philipson group, with hotel rooms beginning on the fourth floor. The garage, situated in the basement, had 250 parking spaces, and you could also get your car serviced over the day. The hotel was one of Stockholm's largest and most modern hotels even at that time.
