The Langholmen Hotel is housed in the old Crown Prison, which was built in the early 19th century. In the middle of the building is the attractive gallery dating from 1866, that has given the hotel's beautiful, open atrium.
In 1975, the last prisoner was discharged, and in May 1989 the Hotel opened after two years renovation work. The cells are now comfortably and functionally furnished, each with its own shower, WC, telephone, radio and cable TV. The Hotel has 89 single and 13 double cells, of which 10 have facilities for the disabled. All cells are now non-smoking.
The old prison entrance hall has been converted into a reception, with a cafeteria open 24 hours a day. Times change, and staying in a cell is now a captivating experience. The Hotel promises to give you your own key, and that breakfast consists of more than bread and water!
The Långholmens Restaurant is housed in the Alstavik residence, which dates from the 1670s. Here, you can enjoy tasty and well-prepared food in a historically captivating setting. As a guest, you can choose between several cosy seating areas.
In the summer, you can visit the restaurants patio, with a barbecue and simple dishes on the menu. In autumn and winter, you can enjoy a visit to Finkan Pub (‘The Nick’), after a walk. The pub is open every day, and serves cold refreshments and simple hot dishes, as well as beverages.
In December, Långholmen’s traditional Swedish Christmas buffet is served, with a wealth of dishes to choose from, in a warm and agreeable ambience. Mulled wine is served in the restaurant’s covered patio, with winter decorations. For large groups, the Hotel recommends the Wine Cellar or the Alstavik assembly or banqueting hall, which is perfect for wedding receptions and company parties. Take the opportunity, too, to see artist Madeleine Pyk’s art, inspired by the history of the island. The paintings are on display in the Långholmen Restaurant.
The conference part of the Hotel complex is housed partly in the old hospital and partly in the former Crown Prison. Today, it contains the conference rooms, and the Hotel can offer light and attractive premises. These include:
Four large rooms (the largest seats up to 80 people)
Six medium-sized rooms (the largest seats up to 16)
Group rooms
All the technical equipment you may need, including broadband Internet connection
A department for your own arrangements, which can offer several programmes "Prisoners at Långholmen", "The Spinning-House Mystery", "The Escape" and guided tours including a visit to the Hotels own museum
An attractive assembly or banqueting hall and a cheese and wine cellar ideally suited for wine-tasting or beer-tasting sessions
Verdant countryside, perfect for walks and jogging
Meals are served in The Långholmen Restaurant, housed in the Alstavik residence. The premises are light and attractive, and there is an inviting patio for outdoor meals. The kitchen offers a wide range of the best dishes in the Swedish culinary tradition.
