Lady Hamilton Hotel, Stockholm

The Lady Hamilton Hotel in Stockholm´s Old Town is one big museum, a dramatisation of both Swedish and English history. The Class A listed building has been around ever since 1470. At that time, the building was divided into three separate houses. These were eventually bought by a merchant, Lorens Erdtman, who converted them into one spacious home for himself. In 1975 the building was bought by Majlis and Gunnar Bengtsson, who refurbished the house as a hotel.

The feel of the past can also be experienced in the rooms. You might see a fine old drinks cabinet for example, with a rustic design and containing an antique spirits bottle. All rooms are named after a regional flower, which artist Ingrid Svensson has painted on each door. Behind the doors, the rooms naturally contain all the facilities one could wish for.

All single rooms have cable TV with film channels, minibar, telephone, facilities for computer and internet connection. The beds are from Hästens, famed for their comfort, and duvet and pillows are of down.

All double rooms have cable TV, film channels, mini-bar, telephone and facilities for computer and internet connection. Over the bed hangs a traditional painting from Dalarna and each room is also furnished with an antique rustic cupboard.

Throughout the hotel there are nautical reminders of the Lady's heroic lover, Admiral Nelson. The bar resembles an old country inn and has a relaxing atmosphere, and there's also a bright breakfast room.

At basement level in the Lady Hamilton there is something of a cultural treasure, an ancient well dating back to the 1300s! It was here that many of those living in the Old Town in those days fetched their water. Today, the well is used by guests for taking a cool dip.
