This 1958 building was originally the headquarters of the eponymous fabric and wallpaper company. Now home to 150 rooms designed by Philippe Starck, the hotel is sensual, sexy and surreal. Next door, in the see-and-be-seen Long Bar, a rock'n'pop crowd gathers around an 80-foot onyx bar. Quieter public areas include the Purple Bar and the Japanese-style Courtyard Garden.
In the peaceful bedrooms, silver-leaf 'sleigh' beds take centre-stage and the opaque silk drapes screen the bathrooms. More bizarre are the paintings on the ceilings and huge egg sculptures, both of which reiterate the central premiseof the hotel: you are here to have fun!
