Japan's extensive high speed train network connects Tokyo with most of the country's other major cities. Japan's high speed "bullet" trains are called shinkansen and can reach speeds of over 300 km/h.

TOKYO OVERVIEW:
The level of energy is most striking in Japan's capital city. Streets are lined with small specialist shops and bustling restaurants, most of which stay open late into the night. Close to the soaring office blocks exist a contrasting Tokyo - an old wooden house, a kimono shop, a Japanese Inn. Tokyo is a place where consumer culture collide with old traditions. It's a vibrant city and you'll always find things to explore.
KYOTO OVERVIEW:
Kyoto has hundreds of temples and gardens. It was was the imperial capital between 794 and 1868, and it continues to function as the major cultural centre of Japan. Kyoto still has the raked pebble gardens, the sensuous contours of a temple roof, and the latter-day geishas. The Imperial Palace is one of the few sights in central Kyoto. The present building was constructed in 1855 and can only be visited as part of a tour.
KOBE OVERVIEW:
In Kobe you are less likely to find exotic or traditional Japan but more likely to discover a cosmopolitan setting with excellent shopping and international cuisine.
