Seductive and endowed with stunning beauty, Ibiza , smallest of the Balearic Islands, seems to take a sultry pleasure in flaunting it's charms. "La Isla Blanca", the white island, they call it that because of it's dazzling white cubical houses standing out against the azure sky and dark green pinewoods.
Inland are peaceful, timeless landscapes of gentle, wooded hills and valleys where almonds, lemon and figs are grown in a near perfect climate.
All the municipalities on Ibiza have their own special charm and at times it is necessary to go a bit further out from the usual tourist haunts to discover the islands true secrets. Santa Eulalia, for example, has a pretty miniature town, and at its peak stands the Puig de Missa, a splendid church which is worth a visit for its magnificent views as well as for its great beauty.
San Antonio, despite being the part of the island which tourists know best, is often a place which few visitors explore. Tourists should leave the urban area, which is not particularly interesting, and really make the most of places such as Santa Ines, where the almond blossom is truly impressive, San Mateo (a little village where wine is produced) or the coastal area, from where there is a clear view of the little Conejera island, or Cap Nuno. The area is ideal for mountain-biking or hill-walking.
Ibiza beaches are as famous as the clubs. Playa de la Salinas, a white long sandy beach on the south of the island is the trendiest beach on Ibiza.
The Cova de Can Marça - These caves, located above the San Miguel bay, is over one hundred thousand years old and was once used by smugglers. It houses impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
Make a point of visiting the Hippy Market in the grounds of the Punta Arabí holiday club in Es Cana. Offering a great choice of clothing and jewellery.
Ibiza has the reputation as the party capital of the world. It is rich in clubs, DJs and dance music.
Ibiza also has a very important wetland known as Ses Feixes. It is located next to Talamanca beach, and still has the remains of the Arab irrigation system. It is also an important bird sanctuary on the island.
A very important part of the Ibiza club scene are the many music bars around the island, where clubbers go to warm-up for their coming nights out, or to listen to music and dance in a more relaxed (and cheaper) atmosphere.
Most of these bars have free entry and cheaper drinks, but still have great local (and guest) DJs spinning the same tunes you will hear out in the clubs. You only need 20 or 30 people to create a really wild atmosphere, and these are the scene for many a legendary night out!
Most of the bars do not get going until after 24.00, so come prepared for a long and late night session!
